Colbert’s CBS farewell turns into a YouTube custody fight

Stephen Colbert’s CBS goodbye did not end with a curtain call. It got a YouTube afterlife. After the May 21 Late Show finale, Colbert surfaced through an Only in Monroe public-access episode, clips started spreading, and CBS reportedly had to back off after backlash over blocking uploads. That is the new late-night exit package: Paul McCartney, a darkened theater, one corporate statement, and then everybody arguing over who owns the clip. Broadcast TV used to decide when the show was over. Now the audience just opens another tab and asks legal to keep up.
